Information for Student Initiated Teaching Sessions within the CSBL

The CSBL supports requests for our resources from MD student interest groups hosting student-led clinical teaching sessions. Such requests must meet additional approvals: you must complete and submit the ‘SOP for Clinical Skills Events’ to the VP Internal Affairs and obtain approval. The SOP and more information can be found on the MMSC website (


In order to book a resource from the CSBL, it is mandatory that you submit the Student-Initiated Teaching Request form (found below), as early as possible to ensure your requests are available.



  • Rooms, SPs, and equipment are all separate entities within the CSBL and you must receive a confirmation from all areas where a request has been made in order to confirm your event.
  • Requests are not confirmed until the approved SOP has been received and the CSBL Student-Initiated Teaching Request form has been submitted. Alternative dates may be required.
  • Contact the CSBL Interest Group Support person to book your initial meeting regarding equipment. Contact information below.
  • Ensure you list ALL consumables PDF (and how many of each) you require (eg. IV- alcohol swab (10), 22g angiocath (50), extension set (6), primary lines (6), saline flush (24), tegaderm (50)) 
  • Please refer to the CSBL Equipment Catalogue PDF available on-line.
  • ALL participants must sign in. The CSBL has a mandatory sign-in policy.
  • ONLY the Student Lead in charge will be given access to the CSBL. Security will require ID before access is granted.
  • The Student Lead in charge must be present for the entire event.


  • The fee schedule is based on the internal attendees' rate of $5 / person for after-hour bookings (after 4 pm).
  • SP fee is $37 per hour, with 1.5 hr minimum charge (No minimum charge for SP virtual simulations). Training fees apply if custom case(s) is used.
  • Additional fees for supplies or equipment may apply depending on the session's requirements.
  • You will receive an invoice the following month. Payment must be made via cheque & should be payable to McMaster University. Instructions will be included with invoice.
